Shehryar Afridi tests Positive for COVID-19

Minister of State for Drug Control Shehryar Afridi has also been infected with the global coronavirus.

Confirming on social networking site Twitter, Shehryar Afridi said, “I have tested positive for coronavirus and I have isolated myself at home on the advice of doctors.”

Even before this, many politicians and important personalities in Pakistan have been infected with the coronavirus, while Shaheen Raza, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab Assembly, has also died from the epidemic.

PPP leader and Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani was the first politician in the country to be diagnosed with the coronavirus and recover after being in isolation.

Abdul Salam Afridi, an elected member of the provincial assembly from Mardan district, also contracted the coronavirus in April, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health minister said his special assistant, Kamran Khan Bangash, had also confirmed COVID-19.

In addition, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal National Assembly member Munir Khan Orakzai and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director of Public Health Dr. Ikramullah Khan also contracted the coronavirus.

Besides, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and his two children, as well as Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, had also contracted the virus but a few days ago they both recovered from the virus.

The virus was also confirmed in several lower house employees, including two members of the National Assembly, Mehboob Shah and Gul Zafar Khan, this month.

Ali Wazir, a member of the National Assembly and leader of the Pashtun Tehreek Movement (PTM), also confirmed the coronavirus.

On May 25, senior PML-N leader Senator Nihal Hashmi confirmed that he had contracted the coronavirus.

A day earlier, PML-N president, Engineer Amir Muqam had contracted the coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and had quarantined himself.

Amir Muqam, a senior PML-N leader, had tested positive for coronavirus after his condition deteriorated and his report was positive yesterday.

On May 21, PML-N Deputy Secretary-General Ataullah Tarar also contracted the coronavirus.

So far, the total number of cases of coronavirus in the country is 66,457 while 1395 deaths have been reported.
