Cricket is a game of Strategy & Uncertainty. And the recently five-match T20 Series between India and New Zealand showed that to the maximum. Yes, it was proved when the Black Caps, despite being in the driver’s seat (winning positions) in the previous three matches were unable to hold their nerves and finish the proceedings.
The overall result of the India Vs New Zealand T20 Series may have been 3-2 with Kiwis pocketing it, but they ended up giving and being on the losing side. Being calm and composed in a tense situation is the key to success for legendary cricketers and triumphant Teams across the globe.
Talking about being cool and calm in pressure situations, if you think about a mentally calm cricketer on the field, it has to be Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The World Cup-winning Captain had been an epitome of ultimate calmness.
The more intense the situation on the field, the more he used to remain cool – both with the bat and while leading. It is one of the key reasons to understand why MS Dhoni has been able to win so many ICC World Titles as a Skipper. Also, the way he used to finish off games during his prime days with the bat was remarkable.
MS Dhoni’s composure has helped to make correct decisions: Rohit Sharma
The swashbuckling Indian Opener, Rohit Sharma, recently appeared on ‘Curly Tales’, a Chat Show. He was asked about his role model on being cool on the field. Rohit Sharma debuted under MS Dhoni during the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup. Since then, he had played a lot under him. He had no uncertainty at all in stating that Dhoni was the most composed cricket that he has seen on a Cricket field.
Rohit ‘Hitman’ Sharma considered the reason behind MS Dhoni leading India to three ICC Trophies and Chennai Super Kings to IPL Titles was his ultimate calmness.
“The entire country knows MS Dhoni is the only one who has continued like that. It has assisted him in making so many correct decisions, and that’s why you see him being the most successful Indian Captain. I think that Dhoni is the best ever Captain that India Side has seen over the years and there is a reason behind it. It is being cool, calm and composed when most needed in a tense situation.” Rohit was quipped as saying in the video.
During his Captaincy days, one of the biggest traits of Dhoni was his amazing capability of handling young and inexperienced bowlers. He would approach them, put an arm on their shoulder and suggest to them what to do. And for Rohit, this characteristic of MS Dhoni encouraged a lot of yuppies to do well for India.
“I had seen Dhoni handling a lot of new bowlers when they were under a lot of pressure. He would go to them and talk on what to do and what not while putting his hand on their shoulder. When you are aware that a young player is being motivated in that fashion by a senior member, you also feel confident about your skills and want to deliver for the country.” Sharma further added.
MS Dhoni has helped India win so many trophies, and one of the reasons behind all these, without an iota of doubt has been his unbelievable composure on the field.
