It is one of the wastewater treatment plants which is used to treat domestic waste from the water. This wastewater treatment plant undergoes physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove the various kinds of contamination present in the water. The main goal of the STP plant is to discharge the contamination of free water into the environment. Depending upon the size, a sewage treatment plant can treat commercial waste and several domestic dwellings.

Like water pollution increase days by day at an alarming rate, it becomes necessary to treat the contamination present in the water before consumption or discharge. There are several Water Purification systems in the market, and all of them are very much potent in delivering the contamination of free water all the time.

A water purification system undergoes through physical, chemical, and biological processes to eliminate all physical, chemical, and biological contamination present in the water.

Water is a universal solvent that can dissolve almost everything in it, which makes the water home of various kinds of the pathogenic agents.

The presence of pathogenic substances in water makes it hazardous for drinking purposes. Thus to leave a healthy life using the water purification system become essential. A sewage treatment plant is capable of eliminating all kinds of domestic contamination present in water.

Working OF Sewage Treatment Plant

A sewage treatment plant is made of three-chamber. The first chamber of the sewage treatment plant is not very much different from the septic tanks. In this chamber, grease, oil, scum, and another particle that floated to the top of the water get settled down on the bottom of the tank.

Once the separation process ends, water travels to the second tank. This tank is different from the septic tank. The second tank of the sewage treatment plant is fitted with an air pump that circulates air around the chamber to promote the growth of the aerobic bacteria. The presence of enough amount of bacteria in the tank breaks down the contamination present in the water and effectively cleans the water.

After the bacterial treatment, water does not enter the third tank. The third tank of the sewage treatment plant is called as the final stage of the wastewater treatment system. Thus here in this tank, the final polishing of water takes place.

Types of Sewage Treatment Plant

An STP plant is of various types some of them are listed below:

  • Activates sludge Plant (ASP)
  • Rotating Disc System
  • Submerged Aerated Filter (SAF)
  • Suspended Media Filter (SMF)

Among all the wastewater treatment plants, a sewage treatment plant is cost-effective and can be installed at any compact site.

Conclusion

As water pollution increases day by day, it becomes necessary to treat water. A sewage treatment plant is based on the physical, chemical, and biological treatment system to eliminate the contamination present in the water. There are various kinds of wastewater treatment systems, but an STP plant has its importance. A sewage treatment plant is mainly used to treat domestic waste, but depending on its size, it can also be used to treat commercial waste. There are various types of sewage treatment plants like Activated sludge plants, rotating disc systems, and others.
