Suppose you have booked a nice city trip. A short flight within Europe, only with hand luggage. So you can’t take so much with you. What are you packing then? And how do you take it with you?
BACKPACK OR TROLLEY?
Depending on the airline you are flying with, you may bring a backpack or a suitcase. Last November, Ryanair already introduced a new policy that roll cases can no longer be taken free of charge as hand luggage. You now have to have it checked in extra as hold luggage (which also means that you can no longer access your belongings during the flight). Wizz Air has also been applying the rule for a long time that roll cases are not allowed free of charge as hand luggage.

If you fly with a slightly more expensive airline, such as Transavia or KLM, a rolling suitcase can still be taken as hand luggage. At KLM you can even take a roll case and a backpack with you.
WHICH ITEMS DO YOU TAKE WITH YOU?
In any case, a backpack itself is handy to take with you on the road. Even if you only bring a suitcase as hand luggage, just stuff an empty backpack in it. In the city, it is more practical if you have a backpack and you can stroll through the city.
It is also nice to take an empty water bottle with you. Once you get past the baggage check, you can simply fill your empty bottle with tap water. Saves you an expensive bottle of water on board the plane again.
If you do a lot of walking during your city trip, don’t forget to bring good walking socks. These take up no more space than normal socks, but make a world of difference on a weekend run.

If you go somewhere where you have to bring your own towel, or you expect to get wet and still like to bring a towel, then the folding sports towels from Nabaiji are highly recommended. They are available in various sizes and roll up very small, so you can easily put them in your backpack.
A booklet of the city you are going to is always recommended. You will often find the best things to do and see in a city, and at home on your bookshelf, it is also beautiful because it gives an overview of all the places you have already been.
LIQUIDS IN YOUR HAND LUGGAGE
Do you take liquids with you in your hand luggage, such as perfume, shampoo or sunscreen? Do not forget that the packaging of this can be a maximum of 100ml and must be together in a ziplock bag of a maximum of 1 liter. Large tubes of cream containing less than 100ml, but which fit more, are not allowed. Toothpaste and deodorant also fall into this category.
DON’T BRING TOO MUCH CLOTHES
Clothes, especially in winter, really take up space in your bag. If you only travel with hand luggage, you simply do not have the space for this. Put on clean clothes when you leave home and bring at most one extra clean set of clothes. Of course, bring clean underwear and socks for every day. Do you sweat a lot? Nothing to be ashamed of! Just take an extra T-shirt with you, roll it up tightly, it will take up less space.
TAKE A FOLDING BAG WITH YOU
Folding bags are small but can provide extra space. Especially when it turns out that your rolling suitcase has to be transferred to the hold due to crowds. Quickly put all the important stuff and the things you like to use on the plane in your folding bag and your rolling suitcase can easily go into the hold.
IMPORTANT STUFF ON TOP
Whether you’re traveling with a backpack or trolley, make sure your important items are always on top or within reach. So those are your travel documents, wallet and passport. If you need something, you don’t have to dig through your entire briefcase.
WHAT BETTER TO LEAVE AT HOME?
In the ‘overcrowded’ category: sometimes you can also take too much with you. Feel free to leave some space in your bag or suitcase so you can take some nice souvenirs with you. That extra pair of shoes is really not necessary, everyone understands that you can walk into a restaurant with your walking shoes on a city trip. The same goes for those extra sets of clothes or those many books that you will not read on your short trip.
