UPSC Exams – Know More about the Civil Service Examination

UPSC Civil Service Exam Prelims 2021 was scheduled to be held on 27th June 2021. The UPSC Civil Service Exam Mains 2021 was scheduled to be held on 17th September 2021. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court, for an extra attempt. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had released a UPSC calendar 2021.

UPSC Notification 2021 was supposed to be released on February 10, 2021. However, the release of notification could be delayed as the Supreme Court had directed the Centre on January 25, 2021; to not to release the UPSC Notification 2021, as the matter is subjudice.  Subjudice means that a particular case or matter is under trial or being considered by a judge or court.

UPSC Forms are available on the official website of the Union Public Service Commission. UPSC Forms will have to be downloaded by the candidates and the necessary details filled, for completing the various procedures involved in the recruitment process. Some of the important UPSC Form that aspiring candidates can find in the official website of UPSC are Instruction for OBC Certificate (Creamy Layer), Proforma for claiming OBC benefits, Proforma of Declaration by OBC Candidates, Proforma for claiming Serving/Retired Armed Force Personnel Benefits, Proforma for claiming Experience, Proforma of Disability Certificate, TA Form for Candidates (for Candidates only), Proforma for claiming SC/ST benefits, Proforma of the certificate to be produced by Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs).

UPSC Civil Service exam is conducted to recruit candidates in 24 different Government services. The different services that a candidate can aspire to get into are Indian Administrative Services(IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS) , Indian Forest Services(IFoS) [Prelims Only], Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise), Group ‘A’, Indian Defence Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Revenue Service (I.T.), Group ‘A’, Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Foreign Services(IFS), Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Group ‘A’ (Assistant Works Manager, Administration), Indian Civil Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Railway Personnel Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Railway Traffic Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Postal Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Railway Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Defence Estates Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Information Service (Junior Grade), Group ‘A’, Indian Railway Personnel Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Railway Traffic Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Trade Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Corporate Law Service, Group ‘A’, Post of Assistant Security Commissioner in Railway Protection Force, Group ‘A’.

These are Group A services. The group B services whose vacancies are filled through Civil Service examination are Pondicherry Police Service, Group ‘B’, Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service, Group ‘B’ (Section Officer’s Grade), Pondicherry Civil Service, Group ‘B’, Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Civil Service, Group ‘B’, Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Police Service, Group ‘B’.

The UPSC Exams syllabus is humongous. It covers various subjects ranging from World and Indian Climate change, International affairs, Geography, Medieval History, Ancient History, Modern History, Science and Technology, Current Affairs, Economy, Environment and Ecology, Indian Society, Social Issues, Art & Culture, Women Empowerment, Indian Polity, etc.

In the mains stage of the civil service examination, two papers are dedicated to optional subjects. This gives the opportunity for candidates from varied backgrounds to appear for the Indian Civil Service Exam. Candidates can choose any one optional subject from a range of 25 different optional subjects.
