Arshad Nadeem keeps Pakistan’s medal hope alive at Tokyo Olympics, reaches javelin throw final

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the finals of the javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics and is the first Pakistani athlete to reach the finals of the Olympic Athletics Championships.

Javelin throw’s group matches at the Tokyo Olympics took place on Wednesday morning. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem was in Group B.

The 32 athletes participating in the event needed a throw of 83.5 to reach the final. Arshad Nadeem managed to throw 78.5 in the first round but in the second round, he qualified directly for the final by throwing 85.16.

This was the third-best throw of Arshad Nadeem’s career. He finished first in Group B with a throw of 85.16 while it was the third-best throw overall in both groups.

In Group A, Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra came first with a throw of 86.65 while Johannes Waiter of Germany came second with a throw of 85.64.

Surprisingly, the top Javelin Throwers failed to qualify for the finals: Julius Yego, Chao Sung Seng, Kishore Velcott, Marcin Krowski, Bernhard Seifert, and Anderson Peters.

The finals of the Javelin Throw at the Tokyo Olympics will begin on August 7 at 4 p.m., Pakistan time. Arshad Nadeem will be on the track as a top-three athlete and he will definitely be a medal hope for Pakistan.

The world record for the javelin throw at the Olympics is held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen, who threw 90.57 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Czech Republic’s Jan Zelsny holds the world record with a throw of 98.48.
