Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria located on the bay of Port Phillip. The city of Melbourne is the second most expensive city in Australia and also the most populous one. In 2014, the population of the Melbourne was 44, 42,919 and the inhabitants of Melbourne is called Melbournians.

In the Creative Cities Network, UNESCO designated City Centre as the of ‘City of Literature’. The population of the City Centre is 28,371 and the people are of mixed social status.

The City Centre in Melbourne is the central business district and also the major financial centre of Melbourne. The headquarters of the world’s two largest mining companies are located in Melbourne City Centre. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Melbourne. 2. Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne

Royal Botanic Gardens is a public park located in Melbourne, Victoria. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Melbourne. The garden is operated by the Royal Botanic Gardens Board. It was opened in 1846 with an area of 38 hectares. Approximately 1 million visitors visit this Royal Botanic Gardens on an average.

The Royal Botanic Gardens are internationally renowned Botanic Gardens and located on the banks of River Yarra. It was a wedding place for Australia’s first Prime Minister Sir Edmund Barton who got married to Jane Ross.

3. Eureka Tower

Eureka Tower is one of the tallest buildings in the world. It ranked 108th among tallest building in the world. The architect of the building was Nonda Katsalidis. The Modern Architectural style was used in the construction of the building. Eureka tower is 297.3 mt. tall towards the sky with 91 floors.

The construction of the building was started in the August 2002 and was opened in October, 2006. The name of the Eureka tower was named after the Eureka stockade.

4. Melbourne Zoo

Melbourne Zoo is a common name of the Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens. It was opened in 1862 with an area of 22 hectares. The zoo contains 320 spices of animals around the world among them elephants, lions and tigers are major exhibits. For the tourists enjoyment gardens and picnic areas are also developed along with the zoo.

5. Queen Victoria Market

Queen Victoria Market is locally known as the Vic Market in Australia. It is the largest open-air market with an area of 17 hectares. It is listed in the Victorian Heritage Register and is also a sign of Australia’s culture and heritage. The Victoria Market is constructed in Victorian Architectural style.

There were other two major markets in Melbourne, but they were closed after the opening of the Victoria Market. In presence, Victoria Market is Melbourne’s tourist destination having varieties of vegetables, meat, seafood and gourmet and many more.

6. Melbourne Cricket Ground

Melbourne Cricket ground is a cricket ground in Melbourne, Australia. The ground is located in the Yarra park Melbourne, Australia with a seating capacity of 1,00,024 at a time. It is the largest cricket ground in Australia and 13th largest ground in the world. The Melbourne Cricket Ground was opened in the year 1854.

7. National Gallery of Victoria

National Gallery of Victoria is an art museum in Melbourne, Australia. The timing of the museum is 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and closed on Tuesday. It was founded in the year 1861 and locally known as NGV. The artwork like A Lion Attacking a Horse, The Pioneer, Shelling Peas are most precious art of the museum.

At present, there are 70000 artworks are kept in the gallery. The museum not only contains the art of Australia but also from the other parts of the world like European paintings, fashion and textiles, photography. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Melbourne.

8. State Library of Victoria

The State Library of Victoria is located in the city of Melbourne, Australia. The timing of the library is 10:00 am to 9:00 pm from Monday to Thursday and 10:00 am to 6:00 pm from Friday to Sunday. It was opened in the year 1856.

The Neoclassical Architecture style was used to build the library and the architect was Joseph Reed. It is located in the Northern centre of the central business district. As in 2014, the library has a collection of 22,77209 newspapers and serials in the museum.

9. Healesville Sanctuary

Healesville Sanctuary is situated in the rural Healesville in Melbourne, Australia. It was opened in the year 1934 with an area of 30 hectares of land. The timing of the sanctuary is 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Kangaroo, wombats, dingoes are some of the main spices of the zoo. The breeding is the most popular work of the zoo. The zoo also contains the breeding population of helmeted honeyeater.

10. St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne

St. Paul’s Cathedral is a cathedral situated in the city of Melbourne, Australia. The timing of the cathedral is 8:00 am to 6:00 pm from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and 7:30 am to 7:30 pm on Sunday. It was built in the Gothic architectural style and the height of the cathedral is 96 mt. The architecture of the cathedral was William Butterfield.
